For decades, Louie & Ernie's has earned recognition as one of New York City's premier pizzerias while remaining true to its family-owned roots.

National acclaim began in 2005, when renowned food writer Ed Levine featured the pizzeria in Pizza: A Slice of Heaven. In 2006, The New York Times recognized Louie & Ernie's among New York's best pizza destinations.

Over the years, The Daily Meal consistently ranked Louie & Ernie's among the 101 Best Pizzas in America, reaching as high as #7 in 2015. The restaurant has also been featured by Thrillist, Forbes, Eater New York, Time Out New York, Newsweek, Chowhound, Travelocity, HYPEBAE, StreetEasy, and UrbanMatter, while earning honors such as #1 Pizza in the Bronx on Yelp and inclusion among New York City's 25 Most Iconic Pizzerias.

Louie & Ernie's has become a destination for pizza lovers worldwide, serving as a featured stop on Scott's Pizza Tours and Fat Dave's Five Borough Eating Tour, appearing in the New York Pizza Project book, on NBC's The Mysteries of Laura, and in a national Mercedes-Benz commercial starring Grand Slam champion Sloane Stephens. The restaurant also gained national attention through Dave Portnoy's Barstool Sports One Bite Pizza Review.

In 2020, Louie & Ernie's received one of the pizza industry's highest honors when it was inducted into the PMQ Pizza Hall of Fame, recognizing more than 50 years of excellence and lasting contributions to American pizza culture.

Today, nearly 80 years after opening, Louie & Ernie's continues to be celebrated by publications including Eater New York, Time Out New York, and The Infatuation as one of New York City's essential pizza destinations. Through it all, the restaurant has remained committed to the same family traditions, quality ingredients, and handcrafted pizza that have defined Louie & Ernie's since 1947.

In 2025, Louie & Ernie's was recognized as New York's Best "Hole-in-the-Wall" Restaurant, a testament to nearly 80 years of serving classic New York pizza with the same recipes, quality ingredients, and family tradition that have defined us since 1947.

Barstool Pizza Review 2018

Dave Portnoy, founder of Barstool Sports, has become one of the most influential voices in the pizza world through his wildly popular One Bite Pizza Reviews series. Following his famous "One Bite, Everybody Knows the Rules" motto, Portnoy travels the country reviewing pizzerias one slice at a time, introducing millions of viewers to both legendary institutions and hidden neighborhood gems.
